This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
