The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
