Person of Interest in Brown University Tragedy Located Deceased Inside Self-Storage Unit.
The suspect linked to the recent fatal shooting incident at Brown University authorities state committed suicide on Thursday night, per law enforcement.
The discovery was made at a storage location on Thursday evening, as reported from an official source. The same individual is also suspected of the murder of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor at a residence in the Boston area.
“He ended his own life this evening,” announced the chief of the Providence police department during a news briefing.
The chief named the deceased man as Claudio Nevis Valenti, a 48-year-old individual enrolled at Brown University.
This development comes after a major police operation at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire earlier on Thursday. Witnesses described seeing multiple armed officers converging on the premises.
The intensive search for the perpetrator had resumed on Monday after the attorney general's office announced that a person of interest on Sunday had been let go. This turn of events was admitted to be deeply concerning for the local community.
City leadership noted that while the letting go was a disappointment, the overall case continued unabated.
The young victims who were killed in the attack have been named by family. They are Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama who was active in a campus political group, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an international student in his freshman year who dreamed of becoming a neurosurgeon.
Authorities are scheduled to hold a news briefing to provide additional information on the suspect's death.
