The acclaimed British actress Mirren, currently holder of an Academy Award, multiple Bafta awards, Golden Globe wins, multiple Emmy accolades, and a Tony, is set to add another major award to her shelf: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe lifetime honor.

Award Event

Mirren, octogenarian, formerly honored as a dame back in 2003 and made a Bafta fellow in 2014, will receive the accolade at an event on the eighth of January, three days before the primary Globes ceremony are held, as part of a program described by the Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

This will also include the bestowal of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett honor for TV work, the recipient of which is still to be revealed. The prior year’s honorees included Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Dame Helen represents a powerhouse performer, and her career is truly extraordinary,” said Helen Hoehne, Helen Hoehne. “Her brilliant portrayals and commitment to her craft continue to inspire countless performers and viewers as well. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her this lifetime achievement honor.”

Notable Roles

Helen Mirren gained prominence back in the 70s through significant parts in theater in the West End of London and through the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films like O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her starring role in detective drama Prime Suspect increased her popularity even more. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, a character she reprised in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings with the Queen and premier Thatcher, a role for which Mirren won a Tony in 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Later-career movies comprise Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Mirren’s turn in the streaming adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has received positive reviews and awards buzz is increasing regarding her role as an ailing family head in the film by Kate Winslet directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, Mirren will be seen portraying Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Globes nominations are set to be revealed on the eighth of December, with Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
