Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Response

Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with performances like these.”

Jones stated, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
